These are some of the procedures which we will be performing as part of our free spine surgery programme
Suffering from low back pain developed a shooting pain in her right leg. She visited various clinics and hospitals and was diagnosed with a L4-5 spondylolisthesis (degenerative instability of the lumbar vertebra) with a resultant compression on the nerve roots emerging from the spine destined to the leg. Many rounds of physiotherapy and medications later her pain had only become worse and she was unable to walk even a few steps
In spite of multiple visits to various hospitals she was not able to get a date for surgery or was unable to afford the cost
Through the Giving Back programme she underwent a navigation guided L4-5 transforaminal lumbar inter body fusion. The surgery normally costs anywhere between Rs.1.5-2.5 lakhs in a private hospital. Through the programme she needed to pay only 25,000 rupees for implant and consumable costs
Post operatively she did exceedingly well and was discharged in 3 days. Five years on she is free of pain and has gone back to work.More importantly her post op rehab has supported her to get back to a fully functional state through which she is able to support herself and her family

Mrs L (A homemaker)
Mrs L’s neck pain started quietly – a dull ache she put down to long hours in the kitchen, the weight of household work, and the years catching up with her.
But over months it became something else entirely. A weakness in both arms. A tingling in her fingers that wouldn’t go away. Difficulty holding things, lifting things, doing the work she had always done without thinking.
By the time her family brought her to Dr. Arvind Bhateja, she had already visited multiple hospitals. She had been told to rest, given medication, referred elsewhere. The cost of surgery – anywhere between ₹1.5 and ₹2 lakhs – had seemed impossible.
An MRI showed the cause – a cervical disc pressing on her spinal cord and nerve roots, causing everything she had been experiencing. Surgery was the only solution.
Through the GivingBack programme, Mrs L underwent an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion – the disc removed, the pressure relieved, the spine stabilised.
Within days, the tingling began to fade. The strength in her arms returned. She went home to her family, back to her life.
“I didn’t think I would ever feel normal again. Now I do.”

Mr H
Through the GivingBack programme, Mr. H underwent a minimally invasive C1-C2 fusion using real-time 3D imaging in the operation theatre – the same cutting-edge approach used for all patients in the programme, regardless of what they can pay.
He walked the next day.
